Over eighty players participated in the 3rd edition of the late Prof. Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile Memorial Squash Tournament over the weekend at the Kampala club.
It was battle of the finest between several squash players including a Kenyan national Jane Njeri and Elizabeth Musimenta (Ugandan) plus our very own Paul Kadoma Kasirye taking the top trophy from eagle-eyed Ivan Wasswa.
Paul Kadoma Kasirye walked away with this year’s squash trophy plus shs1.5M cash prize while Ivan Wasswa bagged shs1M cash prize plus a trophy.
In the women’s or ladies’ category, Jane Njeri walked away with the day’s trophy plus shs1.5M cash prize while our very Elizabeth Musimenta walked away with a cash prize of Shs0.6M plus a trophy.
Others that walked away smiling trophies include former Attorney General William Byaruhanga, Steven Magero, Sam Mwogeza, Sam Kyagulanyi and Jonathan Mwegamire plus several junior players including Aaron Isabirye aged 11yrs and P.6 pupil of St Benedict Pri. Sch, Hussamah Ssemakula aged 12yrs and P.6 pupil of Nakasero Pri. Sch, Israel Buyondo aged 8yrs and P.5 pupil of Nakasero Pri. Sch and Zion Joel aged 13yrs & P.6 pupil of Nakasero Pri. Sch.
The Prof. Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile squash tournament has become a signature tournaments on the Bank of Uganda calendar to remember the great legacy that left by the former governor who was a squash player and member of the Kampala Club, said Kaliisa Katongole also deputy director Bank of Uganda.
It’s now 3yrs down the road since the former Ugandan Banker and Economist, Prof Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile passed on.
We are committed to honoring Prof. Mutebile’s legacy in a way that reflects the values he stood for including excellence, disciple, humility, and service, said report.
Meanwhile also other squash players walked away smiling with trophies after reaching the quarterfinal and these included Michael Raymond Kawooya, Mark Musinguzi, Joel Kasibante, and Cedric Sserwada.
This year, Bank of Uganda injected twenty million shillings (sh20M) into the Prof. ET. Mutebile squash tournament and have pledged to increase on the budget following requests from squash players in order to promote the sport that the former governor loved with passion.(By PEACOCK KAWEESA & Agencies)
