Three Miss Tourism Uganda beauty queens have joined corporate companies and friends to support this year’s Kids of Africa run, scheduled for, Sunday 13th September 2026 at the Bwerenga, Wakiso based Swiss village.
These beauty queens including, Aanyu Catrionah(Miss Tourism Uganda,Apolot Valyne Martha(Miss Tourism Teso Photogenic) and Atim Grace have joined this year’s charity under the campaign fighting gender based violence in our communities & others places including families.
Gender based Violence goes beyond physical beating, abuse, torture, depression plus others, said Sharon Ochora also MEMPROW representative.
Gender based violence happens to both men & women & we must start talking about GBV as an issue of National concern & a violence free society, revealed Sharon Ochora on Thursday at the Kampala Sheraton Hotel during a press conference.
In reality we live with Gender based violence in our local communities & police reports indicate that lots of young girls face Gender based violence plus sexual abuse, revealed reports.
This year, Kids of Africa is shifting its goal posts & charity campaigns from sanitation & hygiene to GBV campaigns, revealed Tage Budolfsen also founder of Kids of Africa children’s village.
Kids of Africa has previously supported schools in Katabi Town Council, Wakiso District with construction of modern toilets.
Esbern Budolfsen also race director of the Kids of Africa run stressed the urgency of addressing GBV and called on the public to support the cause.
The Kids of Africa Run has grown steadily since its first edition in 2011 that attracted over 300 runners of different ages.
This year’s run will continue to use sports as a platform to raise awareness, mobilize support & contribute to the fight against gender-based violence.
Uganda’s GBV sanctuaries are shutting their doors — leaving women and children with nowhere safe to go & 95% of women in Uganda have experienced some form of gender-based violence.
Several corporate companies & sponsors have joined hands to support this year’s 14th edition supporting the girl Child & these include Sheraton Hotel, Kisubi Hospital, Sai Pali institute of Science and Technology, Roko Construction, I&M Bank, Flora Events, Umoja women group, Eden Fitness Gym, Divine Esthetics, Swans Group club, Miss Tourism Teso, SEMBEZA Africa, CORSU, Chrysm Digital Solutions and Yako Bank that has contributed 7million towards this noble cause.
In 2012, there were over 500 runners & by 2017, we had 780 and by 2018 we had 900 participants and in 2022 we had 650 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, revealed Tage Budolfsen, founder of Kids of Africa Swiss Village.
Last year, 832 runners participated in the ‘fun run’ & the proceeds where extended towards supporting awareness of menstrual health and production of reusable menstrual pad for the girl Child within community schools, Budolfsen adds
This year, every finisher is guaranteed a medal with timed results for the 21 KM (above 18 years), 10 KM (13-17, 18-49, 50+) and 5KM (Under 12, 13-17, 18-49 and 50+).
Registration is at shs30,000/= & at three registration points including Namasuba Total 2,Divine Saloon Kawuku & Kids of Africa village.

The starting point will be from Kids Pioneer Primary School Bugiri- Kisubi Katabi Town Council. Coming from Kampala, take the Entebbe Road to Kawuku (25km) at Kawuku *Bwerenga Road- boda boda stage), take a left turn then continue on the Murray Road to Kids Pioneer Primary school
Participants should meet at 6:30am to collect their event T-shirts and race numbers.
The 21km will start at 7:40am sharp; the 10km race at 7:55am & 5km at 8:15am.
