Man of the Match Frank Nsubuga praised the resilient bowling partnership of Robinson Obuya and Raghav Dawan for playing a turning point role for Uganda to win against Kenya by 28 runs.

Following a third consecutive lucky toss, Uganda opted to bat first, losing early wickets of the opening pair of Ronald Lutaaya and Shrideep Mangela, who was having a good game before getting out with 17 runs off 8 balls.

Nsubuga noted, “It has been a game we started at a low, losing two wickets early, but the batting pair of Obuya and Raghav Dawan turned out, batting around to manage the 157 runs, which is good enough to defend, and we did it.”

Despite this, Uganda managed to win by 28 runs with 157/4 in 20 overs, while Kenya managed 127/7.

Turning the game, Obuya managed to put on 40 off 48 balls, and Dawan hit 41 off 38 runs in the attempt of slowing the fall of Uganda’s wickets.

Dawan came in at 1.4 overs, joined by Obuya At 2.1 overs, Obuya was caught by Shem Ngoche at 15.5, and Dawan was caught by Francis Mutua at 16.4 overs.

Team Captain, Juma Miyaji, came in with the changed batting order, replacing Cyrus Kakuru. Miyaji managed 19 runs off 8 balls, batting between 15.5 and 19.2, and was caught by Peter Langat.

Denish Nakrani and Alpesh Ramjan ended the first inning as the batting pair, putting on 24 off 14 and 2 off 2 balls, respectively.

Langat was the best bowler for Kenya at 2/25, and Sachin Gill followed with 1/25.

In the second inning, Retek Patel was on course to chase the needed runs but was stopped at 58/49, caught by Dawan from Cosmos Kyewuta’s bowling.

Kyewuta also got Kenya’s second-best batsman, Sachin Gill, at 30/21, with Juma Miyaji catching him at short fine leg.

Kyewuta was also the bowler to get Jasraj Kundi and further had a catch of Kenyan Captain Dhiren Gondoria.

Gondaria’s wicket was the first to fall, picked by Nsubuga’s bowl in the second over.

The much-experienced spin bowler also picked the second wicket in the over from Tanzeel Sheikh on the first ball he faced, and the third Wicket for Nsubuga was Paskar Shama in the third over, mounting pressure on Kenyan batsmen early in the inning.

Alpesh Ramjan also had a wicket, picking Sukdeep Singh at 11.6 overs.

For a man of the accolade, Nsubuga bowled 3/10, Kyewuta was second with 3/23, and Ramjan managed 1/19.

After collecting the third win of the tournament, beating Nigeria, UAE, and Kenya, on Tuesday, July 22, Uganda will start the second-round robin playing Nigeria at Entebbe Lakeside Oval.
