Entebbe City Mayor Fabrice Brad Rulinda has intervened into the Kitooro taxi park mess after angry traders dragging the municipal authorities to court over missing out on lock-ups & shops during the allocation exercise .
The Mayor last week on Monday called for a urgent meeting to iron-out the mess that forced traders to run to the IGG’s office and other offices including the Equal opportunities commission.
The closed door meeting was organized the municipal council offices with angry traders grimed with ugly faces of acquiring lock-ups.
The angry traders headed by one Dennis Magezi ripped fruits after the Mayor instructing the commercial officer, Mr Mulindwa to allocate all disgruntled traders empty lock-ups with no tenants at the Kitooro taxi park.
It’s now official that allocation exercise is underway & each trader is expected to acquire a free lock-up and more so at the Kitooro market square, more than 100 lock-ups to be given away to traders & vendors in Entebbe.
The traders accuse the Municipal council of failing to give first priority to the original traders & vendors during the allocation exercise after the official opening of the new Kitooro taxi park last year which has a total of 249 shops and costed over Shs 10 billion.
The case stems from the Municipal council violating the 2017 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), between Entebbe Municipal Council and the registered vendors of Kitooro Taxi Park that owned lockups and traded in the park before its re-development.
The traders alleged that the lockups were mainly allocated to technical staffs of Entebbe Municipal Council and those holding political offices including councilors who allegedly registered in pseudo names.
The construction of the Kitooro taxi park , started in 2017 under the Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructure Development Programme (USMID) and saw over 200 traders evicted.
