Two men have been arrested in Kagadi District in connection with the suspected murder of their 95-year-old mother, whose body was found dumped in a sugarcane plantation.
Kabagenzi Angela, a resident of Matuntu A Village, reportedly disappeared from her home on the night of September 4.
Police said her body was found the following morning, about 300 metres from her home.
The deceased had been beheaded, with her head missing from the scene.
Following the discovery, police visited the scene with a sniffer dog as investigators began tracing the circumstances surrounding her death.
According to police, sniffer dog T/P 240 Marshal picked up a scent and followed a trail through the sugarcane plantation.
The trail reportedly led to the home of Kabagenzi’s son, Biija Peter, and later to the home of another son, Isingoma.
Police arrested the two men to assist with investigations.
During the operation, police said Isingoma led officers and members of the community to a location where the missing head was allegedly buried.
The head was subsequently recovered, according to police.
The two suspects remain in custody as detectives continue investigating the circumstances surrounding Kabagenzi’s death.
Police have not yet established the motive for the killing, and the suspects have not been charged in court.
