Several security officials attached to Entebbe International Airport are in the spotlight and under investigations after the news filtered through that the missing Uganda’s wanted opposition politicians depart the country to seek for refugee.

Among the aforementioned is former Kampala Central Lord Councillor Mavis Nakitende who fled the country for an unknown destiny in the Diaspora.

Nakitende, a shrewd member of the National Unity Platform (NUP), the main opposition group in Uganda is among the key persons on the police’s wanted list following a fierce election in January 2026.

After the elections that were marred by intimidation, violence, abductions, torture, ballot stuffing and all sorts of malpractices, it is believed Nakitende went missing, a key concern that bothered her immediate family, friends, relatives and NUP members.

Nakitende’s missing act raised eye brows, many attributing it to rampant abductions in the country to safe houses using the specialized motor vehicles christened as “Drones”.

With an abandoned home, even the whereabouts of her family members are unknown.

Her close family members and officials within National Unity Platform (NUP) party queried her prolonged absence.

However, information has emerged that Nakitende sought for refugee in a yet to be identified country.

Her aided escape is alleged to have been precipitated by a couple of security agencies at Entebbe International Airport who were on duty on the said dates of travel.

Many NUP members, affiliates and sympathizers in Uganda have endured a torrid time with rampant raids executed to arrest them, torture, inflict pain and execute wrongful aggressive arrests.

Several vocal and outspoken opposition figures to the current regime (NRM) in the country have been trailed and forcefully arrested.

Political activists ranging from Kizza Byesigye, Waiswa Mufumbiro, Olivia Lutaaya, Sarah Bireete, former KCCA Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago to Miria Matembe, and  many others, all are missing, others in unknown safe houses and many in state prisons.
