President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Friday presided over the groundbreaking ceremony of Kidepo International Airport in Karenga District.
The construction of Kidepo International Airport is funded by Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry from United Arab Emirates (UAE) and it’s estimated to cost over USD 72 million.
During the launch, President Museveni observed that the restoration of peace has created the conditions for the Karamoja region to develop.
The airport will improve access to Kidepo Valley National Park, boost tourism, attract investors, create jobs and expand markets for local products. The project already employs more than 1,600 Ugandans.
Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA), Deputy Director General, Ms Olive Birungi Lumonya and the General Manager – Regional Airports, Mr. Sam Wonekha represented the Authority at the event.
