The Victoria golf cup tournament has become a signature tournament across the East African region & taking sharp with tough golfers.
It started from a ‘drink up’ coffee idea between Innocent Kihika and a Kenyan friend Anthony Muhoro in Kigali Rwanda.
In the 2016, the Victoria cup started as a brewing idea of having a competition between Kenya & Uganda.
“Uganda has lifted this prestigious golf title twice”, said Innocent Kihika also founding member of the Victoria Cup.
It’s 10yrs down the road since the Victoria Cup started and it has sharpened players including Justus Madowa, Ronald Rugumayo, Joseph Kasozi plus others we are yet to reveal.
This weekend, it’s more than rolling heads & exciting at the 3days Victoria cup tournament at the Entebbe Golf Club.
Play hard & shake hands after the competition & become great friends, said Innocent Kihika during the flag-off ceremony on Wednesday.
The flag-off raising ceremony with the Kenyan delegation was officiated by the Sports State Minister Peter Ogwang at the Entebbe Golf Club.
“Let’s test our skills to a sport embraced by many, and your presence makes the bond on the fairway, displine and character”, said Dr. Jackson Were also president Uganda Golf Union.
“Win with grace, win with dignity and all the players & managers have done great work for our teams”, added Mr Were.
Coach Lt Flavia Namakula is confident Uganda will retain the Victoria Cup on home soil in Entebbe.
The team will miss the magic of last year’s captain Joseph Cwinya-ai and put all eyes on youngsters including Joseph Reagan Akena, Peter Mayende and John Musiimenta.
The Victoria Cup tournament represents more than just a competition and it’s a celebration of shared golfing culture between the two nations.
