Road to 2026 Elections: Excitement as President Museveni is nominated prior to grueling campaigns period

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa; the president for the Republic of Uganda has been duly nominated to contest in the forthcoming elections come the year 2026.

The nomination procedure was executed at the newly established Electoral Commission offices in Lubowa–Lweza along Entebbe Road on Tuesday, 23rd September 2025.

At 10:12 AM, Justice Simon Mugenyi Byamukama confirmed President Museveni as the duly nominated candidate.

“Having fulfilled all the set conditions, I declare Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa as a duly nominated candidate for the post of president of Uganda” Justice Byamukama stated as the president, accompanied by the First Lady smiled ear-to-ear.

A section of his supporters chorused songs of praise including “Tajjagenda” loosely translated “He will not leave”.

The president was joined by the many of the Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Annet Anita Among, the Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa, cabinet ministers and other loyal NRM activists.

He was then led outside the nomination tent to be handed the official security vehicle that will be used throughout the campaign period that commences 29th September 2025 to 12th January 2026.

Addressing the media moments after the media, President Museveni commended the role of the Electoral Commission (EC) in organizing free and fair elections.

He briefly hinted about the manifesto, pointing out the key gains and what he expects to polish for the upcoming five years in power.

There are two major thrust to transform Uganda into a high middle-income country. For the previous Kisanja, the country’s GDP has apparently doubled from 34 billion to now 64 billion. Doubling the size of the GDP in one term is not a mean achievement. We have electricity, roads, telephones, manpower (educated people), peace which has flooded investments” he hinted.

The president spoke of involvement of the people into the money economy, free education for all especially the children of the poor, roads (more tarmac roads), health (ensuring drugs are not stolen), safe water, crime and impurity exposure and getting rid of the corrupt.

President Museveni was confirmed to address a post-nomination rally at Kololo Ceremonial Independence Grounds where a number of music and other entertainment stars performed to the mammoth gathering.

Meanwhile, Elton Joseph Mabirizi, of Conservative Party was nominated later in the day despite having been turned away initially due to lack of substantive paperwork.

Robert Kasibante of the National Peasants Party was also nominated on Tuesday evening.

On Wednesday, 24th September 2025, there will be another set of candidates that will be nominated.
