Dr. Ssamula George William, proprietor of Tropic Inn Hotel – Masaka and a distinguished Dental Surgeon has passed on at 81yrs.
He graduated from the University of Birmingham in 1971 with a bachelor’s degree in dental surgery.
On returning to Uganda in 1972, he served at Masaka Regional Referral Hospital and later Mulago Hospital, where he was deeply involved in advancing dental health services.

In the late 1980s, he was part of the team that revived the Uganda Dental Association and, together with fellow pioneers like Mr. W. Nganwa and Prof. Raphael Owor, spearheaded the establishment of the Bachelor of Dental Surgery program at Makerere University in 1982.
The first graduates from this program came out in 1987, many of whom benefited from Dr. Ssamula’s mentorship and training at his private practice.
Alongside his professional journey, he nurtured entrepreneurship, establishing Tropic Inn Hotel – Masaka, which has stood as a landmark of hospitality in the region.

Until his last days, he continued serving patients at Dr. G.W. Ssamula’s Dental Clinic, leaving behind a legacy of service, mentorship, and innovation.
