The return of the summer season signals more than just the start of new competitions – it marks the beginning of months filled with fierce rivalries, championship dreams, unforgettable moments and the emergence of the country’s next generation of sporting stars.
From packed sidelines and passionate school supporters to athletes chasing their first major titles, the summer season captures everything that makes school sport so special. It is where communities unite, lifelong memories are created, and future national stars begin their journey.

Curro Halala Cup Grand Finale Kicks Off the Summer of Football –  August 2026
The road to glory reaches its climax as the Curro Halala Cup Grand Finale launches the Summer of Football at HeronBridge College.
After weeks of intense competition, South Africa’s rising football stars will battle for championship honours in a showcase of exceptional talent, determination and school pride. With everything on the line, supporters can expect an electric atmosphere as the first major champions of the SuperSport Schools Summer Season are crowned.
The Curro Halala Cup, launched in 2025, has quickly established itself as one of South Africa’s premier school football tournaments, providing young players with a national platform to showcase their talent, gain recognition and create pathways into the professional game.
The inaugural competition featured 64 teams from eight provinces, with Northern Academy defeating Norkem Park High School in the final at HeronBridge College to become the first champions.
The second edition of the boys’ tournament will see 24 teams compete for the title. Sixteen schools qualified through regional and provincial playoffs, while Curro Century CityMondeor High SchoolWaterstone College and Curro Thatchfield received wildcard entries.
Defending champions Northern Academy, runners-up Norkem Park High SchoolGrey College and Navalsig also secured automatic qualification after finishing in last year’s top four.
The tournament continues to grow in 2026 with the introduction of the inaugural Curro Halala Girls’ Cup, taking place from 14–16 August at HeronBridge College. Sixteen invited schools will compete in a round-robin format followed by knockout playoffs, creating another elite platform for girls’ school football in South Africa
