His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, chaired a meeting on Thursday, November 4, 2026, at the Rabat Royal Palace, a working session to follow up on the next step after the conclusion of the United Nations mission tasks, following the non-renewal by the UN Security Council of its mandate at its meeting held on October 30, 2026.

This session is part of the special Attention that His Majesty the King, may God preserve Him, has consistently devoted to the cause of our territorial integrity and national sovereignty, illustrating His wise approach, His foresighted vision, and His constant concern for safeguarding the interests of His subjects in the Moroccan Sahara.

During the session, attended by Head of Government Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri, Advisor to His Majesty the King Fouad Ali El Himma, Minister of the Interior Abdelouafi Laftit, and Lieutenant General Mohammed Berrid, Inspector General of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) and Commander of the South Zone, His Majesty the King underscored the priorities set out in the Royal Office statement of October 30, namely strict respect for the Kingdom’s territorial integrity, national security and the tranquillity of its citizens, particularly the Southern Provinces’ population.

Diplomatic Relations with African Partners:

His Majesty the King, may God preserve Him, stressed during this session the Kingdom’s respect for its international commitments and its diplomatic doctrine, which is founded on maintaining peace and contributing to its establishment and achievement through all means, while preserving the Kingdom’s sovereignty and bearing in mind all the positive developments that the national cause has witnessed, as well as the diplomatic momentum accompanying them, culminating in the recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara by friendly and brotherly countries, which consider autonomy to be the only political solution offering all the necessary components to definitively bring this artificial regional conflict to an end.”

There are several “friendly and brotherly countries” supporting Morocco’s sovereignty.

Already, there are 22 African countries that have opened general consulates in Laâyoune or Dakhla:

In Laâyoune, there is Burundi, Comoros, Côte d’Ivoire, Eswatini, Gabon, Malawi, the Central African Republic, São Tomé and Príncipe, and Zambia.

In Dakhla; Burkina Faso, Cabo Verde, Djibouti, The Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Liberia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Senegal, Sierra Leone, Chad, and Togo.

Beyond their political significance, these diplomatic representations can provide consular services and support economic, trade, and academic relations.

These functions were notably highlighted during the inauguration of the DRC consulate.

Trade Exchanges Between the Maghreb and West Africa:

The continued development of infrastructure and strategic projects can be put into perspective through the road corridor running via Guerguerat and Mauritania, which connects Morocco to West African markets.

Sahelian Countries’ Access to the Atlantic Ocean:

Also, there are strategic projects that provide an opportunity to recall the Atlantic Initiative launched by Morocco in 2023.

This aims to facilitate landlocked Sahelian countries’ access to Moroccan port infrastructure.

The Dakhla Atlantic Port project is part of this broader ambition to strengthen economic connectivity.
