Police have arrested one suspect and recovered two heifers and a vehicle during an operation targeting suspected cattle theft in Ndejje, Wakiso District.

The operation was carried out on October 4, 2026, in Mirimu Zone, Ndejje Parish, Makindye-Ssabagabo Municipality, following intelligence about a vehicle allegedly being used to transport stolen cattle.

Police officers from Katwe Police Division intercepted motor vehicle registration number UAM 175K and found four men reportedly offloading cattle.

Three of the men fled after spotting the police officers, while one suspect was arrested.

Police identified the suspect as Kakumba Amos, a resident of Matugga.

The two heifers and the vehicle were recovered and taken to Katwe Police Division as investigators began establishing the circumstances surrounding the animals and the people handling them.
ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson, said preliminary investigations point to a possible wider network involved in stealing cattle from different parts of the region.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects may be part of a group involved in stealing cattle from different areas, including Hoima Road and Semuto, and selling them to buyers in the Ndejje area,” Owoyesigyire said.

The police investigation is expected to establish whether the recovered heifers were stolen and identify their owners.

Investigators are also pursuing the three suspects who escaped and are working to determine whether other people are involved in the alleged theft and sale of cattle.

Owoyesigyire said police were determined to establish the full extent of the suspected network.

“Our officers are continuing with investigations and pursuing the suspects who are still at large so that we can establish the full extent of this network and bring those involved to justice,” he said.

Police have appealed to members of the public to provide information that could help identify the suspects still at large or trace other cattle allegedly stolen from different areas.

Cattle owners who have recently lost animals have also been encouraged to report the cases and provide relevant information to assist investigators in establishing whether the recovered heifers are among the missing livestock.

The arrested suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue.
