The National Unity Platform (NUP) has strongly condemned what the party describes as a fresh wave of “drone” abductions following the reported seizure of supporter and activist Ninye Tabz in Kampala’s Kamwokya suburb.
According to information shared by party members and witnesses, unidentified armed men traveling in an unmarked Toyota Hiace vehicle allegedly intercepted and forcefully took away Ninye Tabz on Wednesday, sparking renewed fear among opposition supporters.
The incident immediately drew reactions from NUP leaders, who accused security agencies of reviving tactics that became widely criticized during and after the 2021 general elections, when several opposition supporters were reportedly abducted in similar operations.
Party officials said the continued use of unmarked vans, commonly known as “drones,” has created panic among young activists and supporters across the country.
NUP Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya and other senior party figures called for the immediate release of Ninye Tabz, insisting that all arrests should follow constitutional procedures and respect human rights.
Human rights activists have previously raised concern over enforced disappearances, illegal detentions and alleged torture linked to covert security operations targeting government critics and opposition supporters.
Security agencies, however, have consistently denied carrying out illegal abductions, maintaining that suspects arrested in security operations are detained in accordance with the law.
By Wednesday night, the whereabouts of Ninye Tabz had not yet been officially disclosed, with NUP supporters continuing to demand accountability from authorities.
