SWANS: Fighting Gender Based Violence Is Shared Responsibility From Parents To Schools To Our  Communities (DUPLICATE)

The Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) and the Uganda Rugby Union (URU) in partnership with  Swans sports club plus Olympic Solidarity  have joined hands with community leaders, school teachers, sports leaders  in the  campaign against gender based violence in our local  communities and sports.

The three days’ training workshop at the Innophine hotel  in Entebbe is aimed at drawing parameters in curbing down gender based violence practices in our local communities and in different sports discipline.

This workshop is a wake up call for community leaders, religious leaders, and head teachers plus district sports leaders to fight gender based violence in our communities, schools and identify the missing leadership gaps.

Gender based violence is within our local community and people are not informed how it’s spread, revealed Joyce Nalubega also chief guest & Entebbe Municipal Council District Education Officers.

“Fighting gender based violence is shared responsibility and why gender based violence is under reported”, said key speakers.

Key speakers pointed fingers at the, weak laws, communication gaps and lack of sensitization plus other concerns that have failed the curbing down of gender based violence practices in our communities.

Building trust in victims plus reporting cases of moral decay where revealed as some of the lasting solutions to  fighting bad human  practices including sex harassment and homosexuality, said key speakers.

Gender based violence has become a generational curse and it’s for this reason why community leaders and religious leaders have come up with others to make a single ‘voice’ to water down gender based violence  practices in our communities, said Regina Lunyoro  also brain  behind the gender based violence campaign fight.

Condemn gender based violence by creating safe spaces, enforce policies against gender based violence and lets be open to our children, she added.

The official launch of the three days’ training workshop was attended by several school teachers, community leaders, sports leaders plus others including media  in identifying and finding lasting  solutions to the fight against gender based violence in our communities & different sports disciplines.

The  workshop launch was also attended by several personalities including Rev Simon Musoke-of the Kiwafu COU,Ritah Christine Kimbowa also Entebbe Probation Officer,Betty Apio-Badminton coach,Atunkunda Edith-Entebbe Police Community Liason Officer plus others from different organizations .(By PEACOCK KAWEESA & Agencies)
