The MWE, through DWRM, developed water source protection guidelines to guide in the protection of different water sources.
The guidelines are developed in five volumes to protect different water sources.
AWMZ this week embarked on the implementation of volume 5 through community engagements/ sensitization together with district local governments and relevant stakeholders of respective hydro-power plants.
This was done through the developed water source protection plans of respective power plants. The hydro power plants included.
- Kyambura hydro-power plant in Rubirizi district
- Nyamugasani 1 and 2 hydro-power plant in Kasese
- Kakaka Small hydro-power plant in kasese.
Objectives of the engagement include:
- To inform adjacent communities on the need for demarcation of respective rivers buffer zone in HEP development areas.
- Formation of bye-laws to protect water sources.
3. Sensitization on alternative livelihood activities within the protection zones
4. Formation of water source protection committees.
