The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority in partnership with the Civil Aviation Safety and Security Oversight Agency (CASSOA) have organised a Regional Workshop on Flight Crew and Flight Dispatch Skill Test Standards at the Protea Skys Hotel, Naguru.
The workshop scheduled to run from November 17 to 21, 2025 was today officially opened by Eng. Ronny Barongo, UCAA’s Director Safety, Security & Economic Regulation, who delivered remarks on behalf of the Director General.
In his address, Eng. Barongo highlighted the importance of harmonizing aviation training and assessment across the East African Community to enhance safety, efficiency, and regional cooperation.
He emphasized that aligning with ICAO’s global best practices is essential to strengthening the competency of flight crew and dispatchers across the region.
Over the coming days, participants will review and develop standardized testing frameworks, share best practices, agree on competency-based training requirements, and adopt a roadmap for harmonized standards across all EAC Partner States.
Eng. Barongo noted that the workshop comes at a critical time as air traffic continues to grow.
In October 2025 alone, Entebbe International Airport recorded 214,165 international passengers; an increase of over 32,000 compared to October 2024, and handled 6,070 metric tonnes of cargo, one of the highest monthly totals ever recorded.
He commended EAC-CASSOA for its continued leadership and collaboration in improving aviation safety and oversight in the region.
As traffic numbers rise, engagements like this play a vital role in ensuring safe, efficient, and harmonized skies for East Africa.
