Security concerns in the most parts of Uganda remain suspect barely weeks after the country’s 64th Independence celebrations.

Over 100 criminality cases are reported by the Police each week with dear lives lost, hundreds left injured, property worth millions robbed and vandalized with psychological trauma subjected to the unsuspecting victims.

The latest high-profile incident and case involved a journalist Gerald Kikulwe, who works with Vision Group.

On a fateful morning of Sunday, 25th October 2026 while travelling to the Victoria Raceway park in Garuga – Katabi Town Council in Wakiso District, Kikulwe was attacked by yet to be identified people.

Armed with pangas and sharp razored knives, he was intercepted and seriously assaulted; inflicting severe cuts on the head, hand and other parts of the body.

The attacker reportedly hit him on the head, chest and stomach before he lost consciousness and only recovered about an hour later while at the Emergency Department of Mulago National Referral Hospital in Kampala as he received medication.

He was robbed of all the items he had carried for work including a professional camera and appropriate high-performance camera lens, a laptop computer for news writing, editing and content processing, a mobile phone for communication and field coordination as well as a camera tripod, other essential reporting accessories as well as some money.

“I was attacked by unidentified assailants on Sunday, 25 October 2026, at approximately 6:45 a.m., while travelling to undertake a journalistic assignment. These individuals who attacked me were travelling on a motorcycle and armed with pangas and sharp knives. They subjected me to a brutal physical assault, attempting to inflict severe cuts to my head and other parts of my body. I was kicked, repeatedly stomped on and left severely injured. By God’s grace, I survived what could easily have been a fatal encounter. Nevertheless, I sustained serious bodily injuries and was left traumatized by the ordeal. In addition to the physical assault, the attackers ran away with virtually all the equipment and personal belongings I had with me” he narrated the ordeal.
