Police in Wakiso District have detained a 34-year-old woman over allegations of torturing a 10-year-old boy in Kanaala Zone, Mutundwe Parish, Bunamwaya Division.
The suspect, identified as Nankunda Esther, is being held at Nateete Police Station following the incident that reportedly occurred on March 20, 2026, during Eid Day celebrations.
According to police, the child — a Primary Four pupil — had been left under the suspect’s care by a relative.
It is alleged that at around 5:00 p.m., the suspect accused the boy of stealing 100,000 Ugandan shillings before subjecting him to severe punishment.
Preliminary findings indicate that the suspect allegedly burned the child’s hands using a heated polythene bag.
The victim has since been rescued and taken for medical examination as authorities assess the extent of the injuries sustained.
Police say the suspect remains in custody pending court proceedings, with investigations ongoing.
Authorities have condemned the incident, warning the public against acts of violence and abuse toward children and reaffirming their commitment to ensuring justice is served.
