Uganda Decides 2026: FDC’s Nandala Mafabi officially nominated

Forum For Democratic Change (FDC) candidate James Nathan Nandala Mafabi, 59, became the fourth person to be officially nominated by the Electoral Commission for the position of President of the Republic of Uganda.

Mafabi was successfully nominated on Wednesday, 24th September 2025 at the new EC Grounds in Lweza – Lubowa along Entebbe Road.

“Having certified all the conditions set, you are a duly nominated candidate for the position of President of Uganda.” Justice Simon Mugenyi Byabakama, the chairperson of the EC remarked.

Mafabi was accompanied by the wife Florence Mafabi, FDC die-hards Jack Sabiiti, Patrick Amuriat Oboi and others.

He joins incumbent Yoweri Museveni Kaguta Tibuhaburwa of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), Elton Joseph Mabirizi (Conservative Party) and Robert Kasibante (National Peasants Party).

Mafabi addressed the media stationed at Lubowa and hinted about his manifesto that is hinged along the theme-line “Fixing the Economy, Money in our pockets”.

“I come from the mountains of the sun.” the economics expert who has also worked at the World Bank opened up.

“I want to thank the people of Budadiri West for having given me the mandate to represent them in Parliament for 25 years which put me on the platform to be seen. I am a servant you can rely on. The agricultural sector will have 10% of the national budget. I plan 100,000,000 per Parish every year. I want to boost sports in the country” he stated.

Mafabi is expected to address a post-nomination rally at Kampala Road playground in Butabika Parish, Nakawa Kampala on Wednesday afternoon.

According to Justice Byabakama more candidates will be nominated on the second day as Mugisha Muntu (ANT), Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu of National Unity Platform (NUP) and any other if they pass the mandatory set conditions.
