From the successfully held opening edition of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League pre-season fans cup, SC Villa fan Maureen Afwoyo was the center of headlines, beating male fans for the most valuable player of the tournament.
Afwoyo, with 3 goals and an assist, helped SC Villa fans lift the first edition of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League fans pre-season cup, beating NEC fans 5-4 on penalties in the final played on Sunday, July 20, at Namalere Research Center, Wakiso.
The tournament had 10 teams grouped into two groups. It started on Saturday, July 19, at Express FC ground in Kanyanya.
SC Villa fans’ team was in group A with the likes of Police FC fans, URA FC fans, Bright Stars fans, and KCCA FC fans.
After overcoming the group stage, they went on to stop Kitara FC fans in the Semifinals, while NEC FC fans stopped Police FC fans at the stage of the last four.
Police FC fans managed to overcome Kitara FC fans in the third-place match, with their own Faisal Nsobya ending the tournament with 5 goals most of the tournament by a single player.
The event was sponsored by SBE Lait Diaries, GK Safe Travels Limited, Kasmac Xpress and Logistics, Sultan Property Consultant, Meddie Sports, St Catherine Hospital Bombo Road, Byfar Autos, Laflavy Boutique Entebbe, and The Kasirye Designz Kampala.
Winner SC Villa were awarded a trophy, gold medals, a set of jerseys, and a ball.
NEC FC fans team, 1st runners up, were awarded silver medals, a set of jerseys, and a ball.
Police FC fans team, second runners up, were awarded bronze medals and a ball.
