Ntungamo district held a successful workshop about the sensitization of HIV/AIDS.

This workshop took place at the district headquarters intended to sensitize the public about HIV/AIDS.

Attendants of this workshop sought ways of how to fight against HIV/AIDS, by sensitizing the people about the scourge cause, effects and possible preventative measures.

The session was led by Nesterio Twesigye, the Ntungamo District Health Educator (HDE).

Twesigye urged the members to inform others in the public to go for testing as it will help healthy sector Ntungamo for proper planning of people with the virus.

He also requested the attendants to keep educating people on events like for sports, parties, music concerts, and many others about HIV/AIDS with it’s consequences.

Ten members were selected from the different corners in Ntungamo; to include the Ntungamo district Public Relations Officer (PRO) Anthony Kushaba and Mackono Akampurira from Thunder FM in Rubaare.

According to a report, HIV in Ntungamo District has increased from 5.4%-6.7% with 20,000 people sampled

17,000 were tested and 3,000 not tested.

The common places with people living with HIV include, Rubaare, Ntungamo town, Nyamukana, Rwashameire, Mirama Hills/ Kafunjo, Kitwe, Nyamukana, Rwahi, Rwentobo, Kahunga, Itojo, Rwamabondo and Kyempene.

The key population consisted of men having sex with fellow men (homosexuals), sex worker, intravenous, the transgender and the incarcerates population/ prisoners.

The means of HIV/AIDS transmission emphasized include having unprotected sex, sharing objects and peer influence etc.
