The 2025 Masaza Cup has been launched with a significant growth from 2024 season eyed to commence as it was revealed by Minister of Sports, youth and arts Owek. Robert Sserwanga.
The launch was held at Bulange Gardens in Mengo on 18th June 2025 with Masaza leaders and team managers in turn up for the event.
In Minister’s report, the Masaza cup 2024 got a 70,000 growth of spectators to reach 385,000 from 315,000 that attended Masaza cup games in 2023.
In the same report minister also disclosed Masaza cup to key center in employing Ugandans shooting to 500 players, 217 officials and 4,500 service providers per matchday coming to total 650,000 beneficiaries in the entire season one.

The launch was chief guested by the Katikiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga who launched the 21st edition after remarks where he allocated the change of the notion in the sports industry. “In the past, people were counties sports only for those who fails in studies but the notion has changed and the FUFA chief executive officer Edgar Watson is one of the remarkable example being a graduate doesn’t stop him from going on and captain the biggest club in the country SC Villa and National football team Uganda Cranes, Now days football is beyond enjoyment but it curries many financial resources, Kabaka wants us to develop sports in Buganda deliberately and with that we came to a motion of registering Masaza cup team as clubs and also start constructing stadiums in all Masaza (18).
On the 21st edition, the Katikiro called team managers to stop the acts of believing in witchcrafts and drop all other indiscipline for the growth of the competition. “I argue Masaza cup team managers to stop believing in witchcrafts, witchcrafts can’t win a football match, it is disciplines which can make you win a game but believing that witchcrafts can make you win a match is stupidity”
Katikiro finished his remarks with handling over Jerseys designed by I and Q to Buddu and Gomba ahead of the opening match on 21st June 2025 at Kitovu Sports Arena.
The event was attended by Key personnels from Masaza cup partners including Airtel Uganda, Kansai Plascon, UNAIDS and Century Bank while FUFA was represent CEO Edgar Watson on behalf of FUFA President Moses Magogo Hashim.
