The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) President, Engineer Moses Magogo Hashim, has invited more experienced and former players to come in and share knowledge with the team preparing for the Africa Nations Championship.

Denis Onyango positively replied to FUFA’s call by coming in to share his knowledge with the goalkeeping department.

Engineer Magogo, who paid a courtesy visit to the team on July 9th at Luzira Prisons, appreciated the experienced Ugandan goalie and opened the door for others.

“I appreciate Denis Onyango for answering the federation’s call. We asked him to share knowledge with the team, and he accepted. Overall, we do everything for the good of our nation; therefore, I call on any other experienced or former player with knowledge to share with the team to come in and help.”

Facing the media, Denis Onyango said, “I am glad the federation invited me to be part of this preparation for CHAN. I myself have never played in CHAN, but I have played in other continental championships, so that is the knowledge I am sharing with our team. We all know that the goalkeeping department has been vital to our game, and that is what I want to emphasize.”

It is less than a month to the beginning of the Africa Nations Championship. The Uganda Cranes have been undergoing training sessions at Luzira Prisons for the past two weeks, with a few sessions being held at FUFA Kadiba Stadium.

Uganda is co-hosting the Africa Nations Championship along with Kenya and Tanzania, with the championship starting on August 2nd, 2025.

With numbered days to the start of the championship, President Magogo expressed heartbreak over Uganda failing to progress past the group stage at CHAN. “We are one of the nations that have mostly participated in CHAN, but we have never progressed from the group stage.”

The challenge has been that we cannot always have the team we played in the qualifiers; some players get transferred to better deals before the championship, and we have less control over it.

This time, we tried to convince our players to have ICT after the championship, but some will move beforehand, according to the information I have,” the President said.

Uganda has only missed the opening edition of the championship in 2009 but has managed appearances in the last four editions, as they are plotting for the fifth in a row.

Recently, the squad in preparation was trimmed to 29 players as the final squad of 23 is awaited to be announced.
