The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) has acquired two executive electric buses from Kiira Motors Corporation to help in elimination of carbon emissions at Entebbe international Airport.

The two acquired electric buses now bring the total number of electric buses to three at Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA).

The Minister for Science, Innovation and technology, Hon. Monica Musenero revealed that the electric buses have got unique features like good shock absorbers, free internet services, video TV set, phone charging pots among other things.

While handing over the two electric buses to management of Uganda Civil Aviation Authority on September 20, 2025, Minister Musenero noted that the technology of the acquired electric buses was first tested and proved to be mature hence safe for passengers.

“We went through technology to produce a product that our customers want. We have pure automotives and mature technology for the electric buses ready to go on the market moreover affordable for Ugandans,” Minister Musenero revealed.

The Head of procurement at the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA), Hellen Hannah Tumuhimbise, said that the acquired electric buses will replace some of the eight fleet of diesel buses which produce hazardous smoke which endangers the natural environment.

This is a way of promoting clean environment in compliance with International Civil Aviation Organization guidelines. We have a number of diesel buses which we must dispose off and replace them with electric buses,” Ms. Hellen Tumuhimbise noted.’

The Head of Transport Unit at Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (the UCAA), Eng. Nicholas Tayebwa, said by acquiring electric buses this would go a long way in combating global warming escalated by using fuel buses.

These electric buses will greatly reduce on carbon emissions and consequently reduce on global warming which adversely affects agricultural productivity and climate change. We believe this strategic intervention will help address global warming issue by reducing carbon emissions at the Airport,” he said.

Eng. Tayebwa also noted that the acquired electric buses will help the authority to do away with the cost of buying fuel for the available eight diesel buses.

He revealed that each diesel bus consumes fuel worth Shs.1m for 500km saying an electric bus moves 500km when fully charged.
