The Uganda Professional Boxing Commission in partnership with the Big Strikers International Company are organizing the biggest show time to celebrate H. E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni upon his victory during the recent presidential elections.
This action packed event under the theme “Liberation day boxing championship and celebrating the sitting president of Uganda”, will be held next month, 6th/ March/2026 at the De-rain Eco beach resort in Entebbe.
This fight under the ‘World Alliance Boxing Championship” has been organized to that effect after a couple of months with no show time.
The Uganda Boxing Federation and the Uganda Profession Boxing Commission have not been talking to each and fighting each other, said report.
The infighting and squabbling has frustrated the boxing sport after government taking parallel lines and sitting on professional boxing in this country, said report during press conference in Entebbe.
Boxing has a ‘misunderstanding’ between professional boxers and amateur boxers but the whole idea is how do we promote Ugandan boxing, said Salim Uhuru also former boxer and new Kampala mayor.
We have written several letters to the boxing federation and how can we work together to promote the sport, said Mr. Mwesigwa Emmanuel.
We have sat in several meetings to iron out our grievances because professional boxing is a business unlike amateur boxing, he added.
The whole of last year 2025, we had no major event following the burning squabbles in the boxing federations & I have taken time without fighting in the ring, said Latibu Muwonge Byakatonda also the dancing machine.
Let the two boxing association promote the sport than pulling ropes and fighting each other over selfish gains and greed, noted former Salim Uhuru.
Profession boxing is the way to go & professional boxing is an NRM party baby born but a lot of people don’t want us to go far in the sport, said report by Mr. Mwesigwa Emmanuel.
This year’s boxing competition is a new page of promoting boxing in this country with over thirty (30) boxers lined up including a Tanzanian boxer Ali Mukonjani and Kenyan Dalmo Kyalo.
Over one hundred & seventy million shillings(shs174m) have been budgeted for the whole event scheduled for next weekend at the lake shores and sponsored by different organizations including Fayaka Airways, IUEA university and Uhuru restaurant, Queen’s tech suppliers ltd, Radio Sapientia plus others.
This year’s boxing event is being organized by the Big strikers international promotions.
Some of the Ugandan great boxers includes John Mugabi,Ayub Kalule,Godfrey Nyakana plus new boxers including Junju Powers,Latibu Muwonge,Shafiq Kiwanuka,Okello Justine,Fahad Mayombo,Lt Aidin Muzei and Brain Akankwasa.(By PEACOCK KAWEESA & Agencies)
