Family Medical Point engages Nakiwogo, Guuda communities about effective reproductive health, family planning

The Family Medical Point (FMP) continues with their aggressive and all engaging programs of sensitizing and educating the people about good reproductive health.

The latest engagements happened with the lake side communities for the people around the lake shore areas of Entebbe Municipality in Nakiwogo and Guuda areas.

The sessions were coordinated by Enock Cedikol (the FMP in-charge), Polyne Nabwire (head of programs) in conjunction with peer different mobilizers.

From the engagements executed; it was discovered that some women needed men to support and participate in family planning and options available for men to reduce unsafe abortions.

Most women observed that men usually control women’s decisions to use contraceptives and whether or not to carry a child from an unwanted pregnancy, some men don’t know how to wear condoms during sexual intercourse.

Some women pondered on what to do when you they unplanned pregnancies. Few discuss with their men to get amiable solutions; including abortions which are successful and others not.

At least five-in-six women noted that they would abort if they got an unplanned pregnancy.

“Some lady mentioned Pep as a family planning method which implied that misconceptions are still many.” Nabwire noted.

From the open discussions, it was also asserted that men prefer the withdraw method which some do not even know how to use as many women tried to understand the natural methods to avoid the cost that comes with family planning commodities

Some women believe that a man can feel the I.U.D and boldly confessed that is why they fear it.

Namayega; a community peer mobiilzer encouraged the women to avoid going to traditional birth attendants and traditional healers for abortion or post abortion care to avoid complications and health issues.

Over the years, Family Medical Point (FMP) has been key in sensitizing the people about effective reproductive health.

They have also donated free male and free condoms, offered efficient counselling services to the people and made follow-ups about safe abortion mechanisms.
