Kisubi Pacers RFC, together with its women’s side, Kisubi Lady Pacers RFC, will this Sunday host the second leg of the Central Rugby 7s Series, dubbed Kisubi7s 2026, at the University of Kisubi Grounds.
The one-day tournament will kick off at 8:00 a.m. and run until late, bringing together rugby enthusiasts, community members, partners, and supporters from across the region.
This year’s event is being held under the theme “Community Partnerships“, a fitting tribute to the institutions, organizations, and individuals whose support has enabled Kisubi Pacers to grow from a small university-based rugby team into one of Uganda’s most respected community sports initiatives.
Founded in 2013 by students and alumni of the University of Kisubi, Kisubi Pacers began as a recreational rugby team aimed at promoting friendship, social interaction, and healthy living among university students.
As interest in the sport grew, the club opened its doors to youth and community members from the surrounding areas, transforming into a truly community-driven rugby club.
Over the years, students and youth from institutions such as St. Joseph’s Technical Institute, Michael Angelo Creative Arts Institute, and Nkumba University joined the team, helping shape the identity of Kisubi Pacers as a rugby family built on inclusion and community development.
Today, the club operates under the broader Pacers Sports Initiative, an organization that uses sport as a vehicle for education, talent development, mental health awareness, and community empowerment.
The initiative has consistently demonstrated that sports can serve as a powerful tool for social transformation and community building.
The Kisubi 7s 2026 tournament will therefore be more than just a rugby competition. It will also serve as a platform to recognize and appreciate the numerous partners who have walked the journey with the club since its inception.
Among those to be recognized are the University of Kisubi, St. Joseph’s Technical Institute, St. Mary’s College Kisubi (SMACK), Michael Angelo Art and Crafts Institute, Jero Farm, Nkumba University, Kitala Secondary School, Kitala Primary School, Mpala Primary School, Kakindu Secondary School, Kisubi Hospital, Entebbe Regional Referral Hospital, Uganda Rugby Union, Jibu Water, Global Learning for Sustainability, Mind Body and Soul, and the many parents and guardians whose encouragement and sacrifice have sustained generations of players.
Speaking ahead of the tournament, club officials noted that the success of Kisubi Pacers has always been rooted in collaboration and shared responsibility.
From providing facilities and mentorship to supporting player welfare, education, and community outreach programs, these partners have contributed significantly to the club’s growth and impact.
The event is expected to attract rugby teams from across the Central Region, offering fans a day of exciting rugby action while showcasing the power of sport in strengthening communities.
Organizers have invited alumni, former players, parents, partners, and the wider public to attend and celebrate the achievements of a club that has spent over a decade building bridges through sport.
As Kisubi Pacers hosts the Central 7s second leg, the tournament stands as a testament to what can be achieved when educational institutions, community organizations, businesses, healthcare facilities, and families work together toward a common goal.
The club’s journey from a university social team in 2013 to a recognized community rugby institution today remains a powerful example of sport’s ability to inspire, unite, and transform lives.
The Kisubi 7s 2026 tournament will take place on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at the University of Kisubi Grounds, starting at 8:00 a.m. Admission is open to the public.
