Police in Kajjansi Division have launched investigations into the tragic death of a one-year-old baby girl who is alleged to have been poisoned on Friday night in Katwe Cell, Nakawuka Parish, Kajjansi Town Council in Wakiso District.
The deceased has been identified as Balisala Promise.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, the child’s mother reportedly used to leave her in the care of a relative, identified as her nephew, while she went for night duty over the past two days.
It is alleged that the suspect later admitted to administering an overdose of medicine to the baby in an attempt to make her sleep, saying the child had been disturbing him during the night.
However, the child’s condition deteriorated and she later died.
Police say a case of murder by poisoning has been opened as investigations continue to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
Authorities have not yet issued further details regarding possible charges as forensic and witness inquiries are ongoing.
