The Registered Trustees of the Church of Uganda have been fully reinstated as the lawful owners of land located along Port Bell Road on the National Land Information System (NLIS) following the Inspectorate of Government’s (IG) intervention.

The IG received a complaint where it was alleged that there was fraud relating to transactions on Church of Uganda land comprised on Plot 107, Old Port Bell Road.

Investigations established that the Land Registration Department fraudulently issued a special certificate of title and transferred it to businessman Meddie Mayega Nyago despite the original title being in the custody of the Registered Trustees of Church of Uganda.

The Commissioner Land Registration was ordered by the Inspector General of Government (IGG) to cancel the special certificate of title for FVR Folio 3, Plot 107 Port Bell Road, issued on 28th October 2022 vide instrument No. KCCA – 00098130.

A search report dated 9th March, 2026, confirmed that the Registered Trustees of Church of Uganda have been reinstated on the National Land Information System (NLIS).

This investigation demonstrates the IG’s bold commitment to enforce the rule of law, transparency and accountability in public offices for better service delivery.
