The Korean Embassy in Uganda joined the rest of its counterparts in the world to celebrate the annual National Armed Forces Day, showcasing traditional Korean culture, attire, cuisine, and beer during a cocktail dinner held at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel.

This was on October 14 at colorful event that attracted a good number of dignitaries, including members of the diplomatic corps and government officials.

The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa represented the Government of Uganda as the chief guest.

He commended the long-standing friendship between Uganda and the Republic of Korea, one that has flourished for over 60 years.

“On behalf of the Government and the people of Uganda, I wish to convey the warm greetings and best wishes of His Excellency, General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda,” Tayebwa said.

“I also take this opportunity to commend the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Uganda for its unwavering dedication to strengthening the deep and friendly ties between our two countries,” he added in a statement.

Hon. Persis Namuganza, Minister of Housing and Urban Development; Hon. Peter Lokeris, Minister for Karamoja; and Hon. Okello Oryem, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs are some of the cabinet ministers who attended the event.

The event also attracted high-ranking officials and military officers from various countries.

“The Republic of Korea stands as a symbol of resilience, having transformed from the devastation of war into one of the world’s leading economies and a beacon of technological innovation,” Tayebwa noted.

“Your story is an inspiration to many nations like ours that have endured similar challenges. The discipline and patriotism of the Korean military remain a cornerstone of this remarkable journey.”

The Korean Ambassador to Uganda H.E. Park Sung-soo, thanked all guests and reaffirmed his country’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.

He congratulated the Armed Forces of Korea, that has lived for over 2000 years protecting freedom and democracy.

“Through continued democracy and economic development, the friendship between the Republic of Korea and Uganda will continue to thrive,” Park noted.
