Hundreds of workers under their Trade Unions have thronged the Electro Commission offices in Kampala to show their support to their respective candidates being nominated as Workers members of parliament 2026-2031, one of the key areas in the special Interest groups the country is looking at are the workers.

A number of workers expressed their joy after the Nomination of Hon Abima Stephen as workers MP 2026 -2031.
Addressing the media after the Nomination, Hon Abima Stephen hinted;
“My coming is a new chapter for Workers in Uganda with a major goal to Revitalize Union Power by Organizing Recruiting and Grow” champion laws that make it easier for unions to organize especially in new and emerging sectors by supporting the cost of organizing plus opening new avenues. I want to secure Union Homes as a Legacy of Stability”

Abima is a product of the Trade Union Movements, He begin as a shop steward, is currently the General Secretary of ATGWA, Deputy Secretary General of NOTU, Executive Board Member of the International Transport workers Federation (ITF), he has undergone a number of academic backgrounds in labourlaws, Employment studies among others.
He says, one of his major goals is to be an effective Voice in Parliament for the workers, convene an annual Trade Union Congress among plus many others.

Some of the workers we talked to, say this is the time for workers to send somebody to parliament who knows Workers Rights and their voices can be heard “Am very happy for my brother Stephen to be Nominated today all along we workers we have been sending people to parliament but end up letting us down I call all the workers to support brother Stephen from the Transport Union”
After the nominations, thousands of people using boda-boda’s escorted Hon. Abima up to ATGWU offices in Kajjansi.

He has chosen a mega phone as his symbol and his slogan is ‘THE TAP ROOT’
17 candidates are vying for the 5 seats of workers MP in the next Parliament one sit is for female representative for workers.
