Retired footballer Yusuf Chippo has openly expressed his candidature for the position of Katabi Town Council mayorship come the tenure; 2026-2031.
Chippo is a popular sporting icon who played football up to the highest level in the country; the StarTimes Uganda Premier League.
During his active football playing days, Chippo featured for Tanda Football Club in the Wakiso first division league and played for Lweza Football Club in the country’s top tier league.
Upon retirement, he remained loyal and always available to the people’s service in enriching community projects as communal tree planting and cleaning campaigns to preserve the environment, sports tournaments in football, boxing and marathons.
Many a time, he voluntarily led public demand forums, often openly demanding for mandatory human rights through aggressive bargains especially for public land against those oppressed.
He has been clobbered, publicly ridiculed, abused and at worst imprisoned for the aggressive protection of the Tanda Community sports grounds.
Chippo’s manifesto for the people of Katabi Town Council is diverse and richly packaged; encompassing all the people in the society; male or female; the rich and the poor, the young and the aged, special women groups, talented sportsmen and women, the working class and unemployed, educated and illiterates and all the other groups of people.
“I am aspiring to become the mayor of Katabi Town Council and I humbly request for all your support” he pleads.
“As Mayor of Katabi Town Council, I pledge to be available, ensure effective service delivery for all the people, promote community accountability and protection of property” he adds.
His manifesto also has youth empowerment, support for women, environmental conservation and waste management, improvement of water and sanitation, security and Justice, education and health, community industrialization, improving markets, promotion of sports, art and culture (his main niche) as well as effective monitoring and supervision of government programs.
His entire campaign trail is embedded along the theme line “welfare for all”.
Chippo is an independent candidate who believes efficient service ought to unite all the people regardless of their religion, race and political affiliation.
The incumbent His Worship Ronald Kalema has already expressed the desire to retain his seat.
