The Black Pirates Rugby Club, proudly sponsored by Roke Telkom, claimed their third
Uganda Rugby Premiership title.
After a hard-fought 80 minutes that ended 23-23, the Pirates stepped up in extra time, pulling off a commanding 44-23 win over the Jinja Hippos club.
This was more than a rugby match; it was a true test of heart and hunger.
The game kicked off with purpose. Isaac Massa set the pace with an early break, leading to a penalty converted by William Nkore but the Hippos hit back quickly, with captain Tonny Kadhambi scoring a
powerful try.
The momentum shifted between both sides, keeping the match competitive and exciting
throughout.
With seconds left on the clock, Pirates’ captain Ivan Magomu crossed the try line, giving the home fans hope. But his conversion sailed wide, and the final whistle signaled extra time.
That is when the Pirates found another level and showed why they’re champions.
Timothy Kisiga, Jones Kamiza, and Haruna Muhammad each scored in extra time, and when the whistle finally blew, the scoreboard showed 44-23.
Rugby is more than a game in Uganda. It is a symbol of strength, strategy and solidarity, but
also respect and trust. The same qualities that make great teams and great partnerships
thrive.
Among those who’ve walked alongside the Pirates on their path is Roke Telkom, whose committed support has helped elevate the team’s journey.
For partners who value potential, the win resonates far beyond the pitch and like rugby,
Roke Telkom believes in connection, not just on the field, but in every corner of the country
where ambition burns bright.
“At Roke Telkom, we’re not just proud — we’re inspired. This win reflects everything we
believe in: resilience, teamwork, and pushing boundaries. Our support for the Pirates goes
far beyond logos on jerseys, it’s a reflection of our long-term commitment to nurturing
talent, empowering youth, and investing in the spirit of local excellence. The Pirates showed Uganda exactly what that looks like” said Joseph Byaruhanga, the Brand and Marketing Manager Roke Telkom.
“We believe in the transformative power of sport and how it unites communities, instils
discipline, and builds future leaders. By supporting the Pirates, we’re not just supporting a
team; we’re helping foster a culture of ambition, resilience, and national pride. Through
sport and connectivity, we aim to spark growth that reaches far beyond the pitch, creating
real impact where it matters most,” Byaruhanga added.
The Pirates’ victory is a celebration of people coming together with a common purpose,
showing that passion and preparation can overcome any obstacle.
Their story is one of courage, unity, and a belief that greatness is always within reach.
